The Candin skin test should be injected intradermally. A properly administered test forms a defined bleb under the skin. The test should not be administered close to a vein or artery. Choose an area where there is smooth skin with no visible veins, arteries, lesions tatoos or hair.
After the technician administers the skin test, the patient must come back approximately 48 hours later. In most cases, induration of 5mm or greater is considered positive.
If the control (Red) is positive, and the PPD (Black) is negative: Suggest that past exposure to M. tuberculosis is unlikely.
If the control (Red) is negative and the PPD (Black)is negative: Suggest the patient may be anergic. |
